Here we are , the start of a new year of marriage and with a new family member! Miss Amelia joins us for this new year as a family. We are so excited to see what his year brings!
It has started out well! Our garden has been a big factor in these last few weeks. Green beans, lettuce, cilantro, parsley, basil, banana peppers and green peppers are, I believe, the main things we have been harvesting! It has been wonderful! I love preserving everything and putting it away for the winter. We will have a lot of good food to eat when that time rolls around!
The first week (July 19-25), we went to visit Jonathan's family on Wednesday the 21st to celebrate his birthday and see his Aunt Julie who was in town from Kansas. It was so great to see her, we always love seeing family from out of town! Amelia loved seeing everyone and did very well considering she had a doctors appointment with shots later that day!
Later in the week we had our marriage meeting, which is when we set a lot of goals and evaluate what went well and what we need to change moving forward. We always enjoy this time together and get a lot of joy out of it! It took most of the weekend, but we loved it! We finished the weekend with a nice swim! Amelia hadn't been swimming before and she did so well! She wasn't incredibly excited about it, but she seemed to enjoy it! We also got a new fridge....for $10...which was incredible. It has been super helpful while we have been working on the garden!
The next week was okay until Jonathan started feeling sick...we spent Thursday night in the ER checking to make sure Jonathan's appendix was still in tact and healthy. I came home around 3AM to get a few (like, 2) hours of sleep before I went back to meet with the surgeon. My mom was super helpful and stayed home with Amelia while we waited to see what was going on. Thankfully, it all went very well and we came home Friday afternoon. I slept and Jonathan mowed, then Mom and Dad brought the baby home, we got pizza and had some corn on the cob!
The weekend was crazy, I made baby food, napped, Jonathan studied, we worked in the garden, put up corn, Amelia STRUGGLED with naps, so that was a challenge, Jonathan took a nap, the Henmans came over to hang out with us and we got groceries! It was a great weekend and we were both thankful Jonathan was perfectly healthy!
August 2-8 was another long week for me, so Jonathan helps a lot with the food and Baby area of our family! We are loving doing fresh food on the grill, so that has been wonderful! On my Wednesday off I took Amelia to the farm to see the kids who were in town, then we got gas, went to visit Mom and worked a little bit on Amelia's new schedule. She was waking up really early and was struggling with naps, so we hobbled through the day.
I worked the weekend, so Jonathan studied and took Amelia to a family reunion. He really enjoyed seeing everyone and getting to show her off a little bit! She finally started to get into the swing of her schedule this weekend. Which was helpful since we were pretty busy the week after.
We go to camp with Jonathan's family every year, and that was August 13-15. The week before involved prep and it was our first year with Amelia, so I wasn't sure what it was going to look like! Thankfully, it was really wonderful! Jonathan was gone Monday and Tuesday, so I did some preparation while he was gone and he got to spend some time with Dillon!
On Wednesday we went to the book sale, which is a big deal for us...because we love to read. While we were gone it stormed, when we made it back, we had dinner and began to realize that our home as not as cool as we would prefer. Apparently our air conditioning is quite old and needs an update...SO, we are knee deep in that. Stay tuned for an update!
Thursday was the hottest day of the year (of course), 92 degrees with 80% humidity is not the day you want to have the air conditioning broken! Jonathan grilled for us so we didn't have to cook inside, Aaron came to look at the AC unit and we got all ready for the weekend. Packed up, made cookies and threw a few things in the car.
Jonathan worked Friday morning, then we finished packing, got Amelia ready and headed for camp! It is a 5.5 hour drive, but takes us at least 6 hours because we always have to stop and eat dinner, which makes for a nice break in the drive! Amelia did fine...other than only sleeping for 1/2 hour...which was a little less than I expected! She did super though.
We absolutely love this weekend. It is the biggest priority of our summer! Jonathan's Mom's side of the family lives in Indiana, so it is great to get to spend so much time with them. We love talking to all of them, catching up and, this year, sharing our baby girl with them! She was awesome. We haven't shared a bedroom since we came home from the hospital, but she handled it well! She couldn't see us and slept like a champ! Jonathan got to play basketball, I got to read for a little bit, we had some great food, great fellowship and some beautiful lake time! It was just a great weekend.
The ride home on Sunday was really good. She hung in there really well, slept a little bit more, like I did, and was very excited to get home! We stopped and got ice cream, then got home and relaxed. Mom and Dad came over to catch up and hear about our weekend, then we unpacked and got some much needed rest!
It has been a great month and we can't wait to see what is next. Hope you are all staying comfortable in the crazy weather. We are working on it here!
Love you all!
Love,
Allison, Jonathan and Amelia
