Year 5, Weeks 9-15: Work, Adventure and Vacation!

I know it has been a very long time since I have written, the Lil Landis fam has been a lil over-booked, but we have been having a grand old time! Keep reading to find out what we have been up to, thank you for always being interested in our lives!

Week 9: September 11th - 17th

My big week with double 13 Monday and Tuesday, so Pam stayed with the kids on Monday and they went to Faith's on Tuesday. Jonathan brought them to visit me later in the day and then they went to help Dad with cutting pigs. That Tuesday was a difficult day for me at work, so it was great to come home and have a few days off.

On Wednesday we had some library time and then the Henman family came to spend some time with us and we all ate lunch together. That was really special and Amelia had a fantastic time, she keeps asking if they are coming again! I got a lot of stuff done that day, which was good because Thursday I didn't get a lot done. I had an eye appointment, then we ran some errands after that. Jonathan had band that evening, so the kids and I spent the evening together.

Friday was grocery shopping and clothes shopping day. I did quite a lot of shopping, then brought some Chipotle home and we spent a little bit of time outside. On Saturday Amelia and I sent to Beechcreek with Mom and the boys went to get some apples at the orchard. We had such a great time together, the gardens were beautiful and the weather was perfect. Jonathan got the garden mowed down in the afternoon and in the evening we had family pictures with Jonathan's family. Sunday was a good day for us, we had a mini date at home, Jonathan worked on repairing the chimney, I cleaned and then we had a family night complete with spaghetti for supper.

Week 10: September 18th - 24th

On Monday I had a few errands to run to get ready for celebrations and finishing our grocery shopping. I got everything ready to go for the next few days, painted William's closet, got our internet bill decreased and then Mom and Dad came over for supper! On Tuesday I was at work and Jonathan had an interview to go to for work, so Mom got the kids after work and Jonathan picked them up once he was done!

There was a lot going on Wednesday and Jonathan was in Ravenna, so I had to take the kids to the library after story time, but we still got there, thank goodness. I looked at a few different things throughout the day and it ended up being a beautiful day outside! We went to the Nature Center for a walk, ate Arby's did a little bit of shopping and then stopped to see Grandma and Grandpa on the way home. Mom and Dad happened to be there too, so it was quite a bonus!

On Thursday I had to make up for our spontaneous evening trip on Wednesday, so I made Polish meatballs and Cajun pork chops so we would have some leftovers to eat over the weekend since I had to work. My hip was out of whack, so I went to see the chiropractor, which worked right away! It definitely helped for the weekend when I was on my feet all the time! I worked and Jonathan took care of the kids for the weekend. We had French toast, thanks to Jonathan's preparation! It was amazing. We ate a lot of leftovers, Jonathan did some work with Dad over the weekend, we cleaned the garden up a little bit and Jonathan did some pressure washing out back. It was a typical weekend for us when I work!

Week 11: September 25th - October 1st

We had some soup this week! Yay! Chicken Enchilada Soup, which Amelia has deemed "chip soup". She loved it! We went and got my new glasses (thank goodness), then I did a little bit of packing. On Tuesday Jonathan had a trip to ONU, so Pam kept the kids while I worked. Jonathan got home early enough to take care of the babies for the evening, so that was a blessing.

This semester we started a small group and Wednesday was our first one. It has been such a blessing. We miss our other small group so much, but our new one has been incredible! It works out well for our babies that we can put them down and it works out for us that we can get to know other people a little bit better! I tried a new recipe for our group, Buckeye Brownies...they were delicious. We will probably have a problem from here on out because they were incredible!

On Thursday Jonathan had band, so we went to see Mom and Dad. We had fajitas for dinner, which was delicious, but William and I were a little bit off since we had NAET, but we are both progressing nicely through that! I am proud of him for passing everything, I think it's hard for babies!

The weekend was pretty good, we both worked on Friday, but then we went to the football game! It was a lot of fun, of course, they lost, but William loved the music and Amelia loved the cheerleaders. I had a weird thing with my eyes, they swelled up a lot and remained so for the rest of the weekend. Jonathan had the men's breakfast on Saturday, so Mom came to hang out for the morning. My eyes were really bad, so I took a nap after Jonathan and I spent some time planning some of our vacation!

Sunday was the day we really got the garden taken care of after church. Dad came and tilled it up, we had pizza in the evening with my parents and grandparents, it was a fantastic Sunday. We even had waffles for breakfast - doesn't get much better than that!

Week 12: October 2nd - 8th

This was a special week because instead of working double 13s, I took Tuesday off! So I worked Monday, and spent Tuesday packing and getting ready for vacation! I also cleaned and got everything ready at home for us to be gone. We were up pretty late packing and then woke up at 3am to get to the airport in time to catch our 6:45 flight. Our children did not sleep at all until the second flight, where William slept the entire time and Amelia refused to even try to sleep! We flew from Pittsburgh to Tulsa with a layover in Charlotte. Once we got to Tulsa, we got our luggage and car, went to get some food at Wendy's, then went to the park for a little while to play! We explored for a little, then went to our house in Tulsa, did some grocery shopping and unpacked. Our schedules were so screwed up that we just had ice cream for supper and had a fantastic night's sleep. Amelia was so brave. It was a new house in a new state after a day of being overwhelmed and she slept right through a thunderstorm, then woke up and said that Jesus helped her do it. We are so blessed by her sweet little heart!

Our stay in Tulsa was short. We got to our house at 4 on Wednesday and had to be out by 11 on Thursday, so we ate breakfast, packed up and headed to the Philbrook Museum of Art. It was so much fun, it was absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed our time! After that, we went to Mother Road Market for lunch then hit the road and took the 4 hour drive to Protection. We stopped in Woodward to do a little bit of shopping and had dinner at Al's Steakhouse - not what we expected, but it was absolutely delicious. From there, we headed to the ranch, it wasn't terribly far. Only a 4 hour drive from Tulsa to Protection but it was long since the babies chose not to sleep. It was quite a long trip, but the babies were overjoyed to get to the ranch. They made themselves right at home, found the toy room and got busy playing and relaxing! It was incredibly encouraging and it felt like we were home!

The entire stay at the ranch was full of incredible, deep conversation and fellowship with Jonathan's Aunt Julie and Uncle Kenyon, his cousin Luke and his wife Mackenzie. Amelia had a fantastic time with Dawson and Stetson. She hadn't met any of her cousins of a similar age and Dawson is only 3 days younger! They played so well together and just loved each other. I was so proud of them, but it was hard to leave! We all had a great time and grew so close to each other in such a short amount of time. Amelia still talks about visiting them!

We got to spend a lot of time on the farm, walks, branding, fires, football watching, games, horse rides, it was all so cool. The weather was amazing, nice and cool! All of us went to Wilmore and rode the carousel there, which was adorable. We then went to Luke and Mackenzie's for pizza and dominoes. It was so much fun! On Sunday we had church and then spent the rest of the day as a family, watching football, eating dinner, it was just the perfect evening.

Week 13: October 9th - 15th

On Monday we packed up to leave for Wichita. After lunch we got the babies in the car and started the 2.5 hour trip. The babies did not sleep as well as we would have wanted them to...yet again. But they did sleep for a minute, so that was better than the Tulsa trip! About a half hour before we got there Julie called me and told me I forgot my purse, so that was a whole thing. I felt horrible, of course, but Jonathan went and met with Julie to get it the next morning. Thank goodness for the two of them. I got babies ready, dressed and fed so that we could leave for the zoo right away! It was a great zoo. Lots of animals, plenty of space, very spread out. We had a great time, the kids were absolute troopers! They did fall asleep on the way home, which ruined the afternoon nap for William, but didn't stop Amelia from indulging...me either! Jonathan and William played for a little while, then when we were done with our naps we went to get supper and did some shopping. We got ourselves some souvenirs, some boots and ate at Cheddars! In the evening, we put the babies to bed and then got everything packed up and ready to head out.

On Wednesday morning we didn't have to rush, so we packed up, went to get crispy donuts - which was amazing, then went to the airport and got all checked in. Wichita is definitely the smallest airport we flew out of and we so enjoyed the change in pace! The flights went really well, William was super sleepy, so he slept great. We had a layover in O'Hare, so that was a lot, of course, but we made it. Got some McDonald's then loaded the plane...which was delayed. Apparently planes wait now, who knew. We got Subway on the way home, then Mom and Dad came to visit while we ate and unpacked. Amelia was SO excited to see them. She slept the whole way home, which was very necessary since she refused to nap on the plane rides.

The whole trip went so well, we were incredibly thankful! Only real challenge was William refusing to eat food, he apparently didn't like the food from the store, and my forgetting my purse. Otherwise it went really smoothly, the kids did great and we enjoyed it all so much!

Thursday was a recovery day, I made chicken and wild rice soup for leftovers, then we went over to Mom's house for a visit with their friends from out of town because they had a trip planned for the weekend. It was great to meet them and catch up with everyone there. I came off vacation to work the long weekend, which was a bit of a "ripping the band aid off" moment, but it really was a great weekend. I worked, Jonathan stayed home and helped with the milking while Mom and Dad were gone. There was a lot of recovery happening, which made all of us feel better, get the babies back in this time zone and back in the habit of eating normally.

Week 14: October 16th - 22nd

After my long weekend back from vacation (which went really well) I was still glad to have a day off on Monday! I made shepherd's pie for supper, but we ended up just keeping it for leftovers because we had a dinner with Mom and Dad to catch up after our trip and their weekend away. I also made some cookies to celebrate my technicians and also for our small group on Wednesday.

Tuesday was National Pharmacy Technician Day, so I took cookies and celebrated the best technicians I know! I did some grocery shopping and got quite a few things accomplished at work. Wednesday was another day off, we went to the library and Amelia went to the big class! It was fantastic! I was very proud of her. We had small group, I prepped some enchiladas and Jonathan mowed all before it started though!

We had enchiladas on Thursday, I worked on more meal prep and Jonathan worked outside on the trees and the leaves. William wasn't feeling fantastic at that point, but we made it through. Jonathan finished the mowing and we did a little bit of shopping to prepare for the weekend. William and I had NAET in the morning, which went really well, but it always makes us both tired!

I only worked an 8 hour day on Friday, so we had pork loin, mashed potatoes and corn for dinner as a family - always a gift. Saturday morning we had a great time shopping. We got a few things for William for his birthday since we had a minute to do so, then we went to Arby's for lunch and came back to get some stuff done at home. Jonathan weeded some flower beds and I made some oatmeal while the kids napped. In the evening, we went to see the Rieman's new house. Sunday was a lot of relaxing, naps, shopping, we went on a walk and then we got supper and enjoyed a show before we started a few long weeks!

Week 15: October 23rd - 29th

I worked a double 13 this week, Monday was stressful, it didn't go well for anyone at all, to be honest. Thankfully, we all made it home in one piece and had a good day the next day. Mom kept the kids after work because Jonathan had a walk through he had to be at in Ravenna. I was pretty exhausted by the end of Tuesday, having not gotten much sleep the night before.

We had a home day on Wednesday, I just didn't have it in me to go to the library. I made stuffed shells for supper and apple cake for small group, but I just needed to be at home! Jonathan had band on Thursday, so I went and got apples for applesauce and spent the evening with Mom and Dad since he was gone. Thursdays are laundry day, so my washer broke, of course. That made everything a bit more challenging, but I got it all washed at Mom and Dad's!

This was the week we changed our schedules, so I actually got to work 9-5 instead of 10-6, it was a bit of a game changer! We had all Friday evening to spend some time together. We had intended to go out to get a new washer, but then we found out the store was closed, so that ended up being a Saturday thing. Jonathan had Men's Breakfast in the morning, so I got some applesauce started, then we went up and got a washer, some gifts and then came home. Jonathan helped me get the applesauce finished while the kids napped, then I made lasagna and baked oatmeal as well. Mom and Dad came over for lunch after church so Dad and Jonathan could get the washer moved in. I took a nap, thankfully. It was wonderful. I needed it to prepare for my next back to back 13 hours days. Two weeks in a row is a lot, I'm very glad that's not normal! We had Oktoberfest stew for supper - so there were plenty of leftovers for the next week!

We have been a little busy around here, but are enjoying every day of it..at least trying to! Thank you for being patient with us, I am sorry I didn't get it done as quickly as I wanted to! Enjoy the little bit of fall we have going on right now!

Love you all,

Jonathan, Allison, Amelia and William
