Year 3, Weeks 30 and 31: Happy Valentine's Day!

What a winter wonderland it has been around here! I am so amazed at how God has provided through this whole COVID craziness. With all the social distancing and all these mandates...He has really allowed for wonderful weather. I don't know if it is because there has been so much more to complain about or if it is due to the wonderful weather - but I have heard very little complaints ABOUT the weather in the last year. Our seasons have been picturesque! Spring started EARLY (we were out sitting around a fire the first week of April), then summer came and went with very little complications...just a few, consecutive, hot weeks, then back to normal. Fall was gorgeous. It didn't try to be summer and didn't defer to winter...just a nice, beautiful few months that lasted into November! Remember? It was, like, 70 degrees the first weekend of November! Then winter came and it has been beautiful as well! We had a white Christmas, there has been a lot of snow and not a TON of rain. Usually, winter in Ohio isn't a lovely, bright, snowy time...it is a 30-40 degree, rainy, muddy, depressing time, but God has really provided us with a beautiful winter. Yes, it is cold. Yes, there is ice...but it hasn't been all of those things...and muddy grossness. It has been all of those things and bright, white, snowy, gorgeousness! I am very grateful for the weather over the past 12 months. It has been perfect for the state of things.

Anyway, off the rabbit trail...all that to say, we have been enjoying our time snuggled in our new house with our new baby, looking at the world from inside. None of us have had to travel too much. For the most part, we just stay home. But I will share with you our highlights and what we have been doing the past two weeks!

February 8-14:

Monday was supposed to be a quiet day - write some thank you's, make dinner, put a grocery list together, talk about the garden, maybe play a game, put the new freezer to good use...you know, just normal stuff. Instead, we ended up taking Amelia to the doctor in the afternoon because she had some weird gunk coming out of her belly button...which turned out to be nothing! Since we were going to Alliance, I ran into Aldi and did our grocery shopping. Then we came home, I pumped, and we dropped Amelia off at my parent's so that we could go buy a new vehicle in Carrollton! Finally, at 7:30, we stopped at DQ for dinner, then went back to feed the baby and take her home. WHEW! NOT the day we had planned...but it was a good one! We have been planning on getting a different vehicle before I return to work. Even though I love my truck...it simply is not suitable for hauling the baby. Since I am going to be taking her to the babysitters and Jonathan is going to be picking her up, we really needed two vehicles that are good for hauling her. Jonathan had been keeping an eye out and searching for something for us. We had a list of things we wanted and there were a few different vehicles in our price range that met the requirements, but this Chevy Traverse seems like the perfect fit! Both of us really like it and are happy with how it rides, how roomy it is and how safe it is for our little girl!

We needed a bit of a break the next day...so it was a home day. All the things that I wanted to get done on Monday moved to Tuesday! So I made cookie dough for cutout cookies, we moved items between our two freezers, had dinner and planned out our garden for this year. Our little family has never had a garden...so I am looking forward to planting one and preserving the harvest! Honestly, the whole planting and tending the garden is less my thing, but I am so looking forward to cooking with all of it and putting it all up that I am excited about the whole process! I am thankful that Jonathan has a little bit more experience with the whole "planting and tending" side of plants, so he will be able to help me and make sure we are doing things well. This will give me a good reason to be outside this summer! I am not naturally drawn outdoors without a specific reason to be out there, so I am excited to have something to do!

Wednesday and Thursday were just typical days for us. At least, typical for now: feed the baby, eat, spend the evening together, just doing our thing! I did make the cutout cookies on Wednesday, so that was fun. Usually we make them for Christmas...but all things considered...that didn't happen this year! So, I made them for Valentine's day instead! There were a few different situations that I needed dessert for and they make a lot, so it was a great opportunity. Thursday, Jonathan had band, so I hung out with the baby all evening and loved every minute. In the afternoon we went on a quick trip to NAPA and to visit Granny after she was done with work, so that was fun! It was our first trip just the two of us. She has been doing a little better at going down at night. Still fussy at some point in the evening, but as long as we have her, she is golden.

As I mentioned before, we didn't plan on having the day we had on Monday...Friday was SUPPOSED to be our first night leaving Amelia, but it ended up being the second! We had our first date night, though, so that was notable. It was Valentine's day weekend, so we decided it would be the perfect time to have our first, post-baby date night...and we were right! There is always a little bit of a struggle deciding where to go to eat, but we wanted to stay fairly close and we kind of wanted Italian...so Cibo's was the best option! I had been there before, but it was years ago, so it was basically like going to a new restaurant. There was one thing that caught both of our eyes: the 7 course dinner for two. It was a ton of fun! First, we got rolls, one (yes, just one) soft drink, one cup of soup and one salad. The soup was terrible, but the Mountain Dew was good and Jonathan liked the salad! Next, they brought out mozzarella sticks that easily made the "top 5 best mozzarella sticks that I have ever had" list. After that we got the big round:
  • meats: steak with mushroom sauce, breaded veal and chicken
  • pasta: rigatoni, spaghetti and another kind that was good
  • dishes: lasagna, cheese ravioli, meat ravioli
We both agreed that the lasagna was our favorite, but the veal was very good and the pasta was all very good as well, including the ravioli. The steak and chicken were okay, but not great. The last thing we got was cheesecake. Now, I have to lead with this fact: I am not a huge cheesecake fan. I can take or leave it...and usually I leave it. Every now and then I enjoy a small slice of homemade cheesecake, but I usually just pass. The reason I share this is because the cheesecake they brought us was possibly the same recipe made in heaven...I guess I won't know for sure until I get there but oh my goodness. It was just a plain piece of cheesecake, but it melted in your mouth, it seemed light and airy in spite of the fact that it was cheesecake, it was definitely the highlight of the meal. Our new rule is: if we go to Cibo's, we are getting dessert. No questions asked. I think I can speak for both of us when I say, it was a great date night. We went somewhere new, tried something different and loved every minute of spending time together. For the most part, we talked about the food, but we also enjoyed talking about the house, and our past month, and all of the changes in our life, and it was wonderful. Amelia had a great time with Granny and Papa...although Granny was disappointed that she slept the whole time!
The rest of the weekend was enjoyable as well! We spent Saturday morning up at the farm with family, then came home so Jonathan could get to church on time since he played. It was his first week playing in the band live, which was exciting! He did a great job! When we got home we enjoyed taking some pictures of Amelia for her one month birthday! It seems like she has been here forever! Our life feels normal and just the way it is supposed to be.
We wrapped the week up with a home day...and we needed it! All of us were in our pajamas for the majority of the day, we napped, rested and just soaked up our time together. By the end of the day, it seemed like we didn't even have a baby! All we did was feed her, change her, and put her back in her crib! She was just so tired!

February 15-21:

Other than Wednesday, we had a fairly relaxing week! Monday, Mandi and Vance came to visit us in the morning, so we all enjoyed that! Amelia just snuggled with Mandi while I played with Vance and we chatted a little bit! It was so nice to catch up and spend some time together! In the evening we had a little date night, so we played a game and relaxed; with our little girl hanging out with us too.

Being home together for so long has been wonderful for our imagination and our brainstorming with the house...so we have a lot of work to do! Tuesday we went to the other part of the house for the evening. We don't go over there very often, so it is always enlightening! Jonathan did some measuring so we can look at everything on paper and I just looked around and started dreaming. It was fun to just go over there and brainstorm together...especially since that's the part we are going to be doing first!

As I mentioned earlier, Wednesday was a little crazy! Amelia and I both had doctor's appointments, hers was at 7:20 am...I will not make that mistake again! We made it, but it was close...just a very early appointment. Everything went well though, she is all good to go! Clean bill of health! Granny had a snow day, so Amelia went and stayed with her for the afternoon while I was getting my allergy testing done, which went really well! I had a few other errands to run, so after that 2.5 hour appointment I went and grabbed a few things, stopped to get pizza, picked Jonathan up, then went to eat dinner with Mom and Dad. It was a crazy day, but a really good one!

Our Thursday went as usual, Jonathan had band, so Amelia and I hung out here. Friday was a fun home day! Amy and Cindy came to visit Amelia and I, so we enjoyed that! In the evening, we watched "White Chicks", had BLTs and then facetimed Shem so he could see Amelia. It was fun to talk to him and see him and for him to get to watch Amelia and interact with her a little bit. She wasn't super cooperative, but it was still good!

Saturday we were at the farm again, which was really fun. Amelia got to interact with all the cousins and she was loved on by everybody there! In the evening we went to church as a family and had dinner when we got home. Sunday we went to the Landis' for lunch and to see everyone. Emily even came home! So they all got to love on Amelia a little bit. She slept most of the time, but everyone enjoyed snuggling her.

All in all, it was a good few weeks for us! Lots of home time, lots of family time and a few little adventures! Hopefully you have been enjoying the beautiful winter and are ready for the nice weather that is on the way! We love you all!

Love,

Alli, Jonathan and Amelia

Year 6, May:

Hello, there! I must say this month will most likely be told in pictures more than words because it has been both a whirlwind and a slow pac...
