Year 3, Weeks 34 and 35: Carharts, Maple Syrup and Big Bows

Hello, there! Spring is officiall upon us and it is beautiful! We have been loving walks around our neighborhood and Jonathan has been getting quite a bit done around the house! It has just been so gorgeous. Baby Amelia is getting used to being outside a little bit more and seems to be enjoying it!

March 8-14:

It is that time of year again, so we went and got our taxes done on Monday...which was much less painful than last year! Amelia came with us and just sat there quietly the whole time...she is just so sweet! After that we went and got some milk since we were running out! I spent most of the day reading and finished a book, which was exceptionally enjoyable for me. It was my turn to pick the game for date night so we played 4 games of Hive. Remember how Jonathan beat me at all the games last blog? Well...it was my turn. I won the first three games of Hive pretty quickly! Thankfully, it is a short game and Jonathan won the last one!

On Tuesday I read another book! I was starting with a bit of a sore throat, so it was a good day to do so. Jonathan spent some time working on the apartment and also tested the dirt out in the yard to see if it was ready to be plowed for our garden. We were quite excited when it was ready! After he was done with work, we went on a nice walk around the allotment. The nice weather is allowing for quite a few more walks! It has been wonderful!

Wednesday, Dad came and plowed the garden for us. It doesn't look as big as I thought it would, but I think it will be perfect! We don't want it to be too ginormous...but we want plenty of space for our produce! We spent the evening hanging out with Grandma, Grandpa, Mom and Dad. It was sweet time together and Amelia just loved all the attention! It was another great day for a walk, but I was feeling a little bit worse. However, the major downer of the day was that I burnt a batch of muffins. Never have I ever burnt something in the oven. I have over cooked things, but not to the point that they are not edible...I now cannot say that. These muffins were just awful...and I still do not understand why! I did everything in accordance to the recipe! It is a complete mystery. The worst part is, I have made them before! So that is a confusing situation...hopefully just a fluke!

Thursday was a different day for us! Jonathan left for a meeting in Margaretta, while Amelia and I spent the day at home. Since I wasn't feeling well, I did go get seen about my sore throat...as I suspected...I have allergies like every other year! In the afternoon, Aunt Chery brought Anne Marie and Lisa down to meet Amelia. I just loved sharing my baby girl with them. They were so good with her and just loved on her so much. She also rolled over for the first time! Not for them...but for me! It was absolutely adorable and I watched the entire thing unfold! She was quite happy about the entire situation...she even did it a few times for me! In the evening, I went and got Hardee's for dinner and Jonathan brought home ice cream...so it was a good evening for eating at the Landis house!

Friday I went grocery shopping. I have not yet figured out how to take an infant to accomplish this task...I think once she can sit in the cart I will be much more confident! I am glad Jonathan works at home so she can just stay home with him. She slept the whole time, so no one was interrupted and everything went smoothly. We were planning on an evening at home as a family...but when the Prusias text and invited us to come visit with Ashton and Caleb, we accepted the offer and spent the evening there instead. It was a great time together and we were so glad they got to meet Amelia!

Our weekend was crazy! Amelia turned two months old on Saturday...which is unbelievable. Time goes by both quickly and slowly...I don't know how to process it at this time! It is maple syrup season, so Dad and Jonathan went out early in the morning so they could enjoy most of the day there. Mom and I went out in the afternoon so we could enjoy it as well. It was absolutely gorgeous out! I wore Amelia all day, but she was out for about three hours, which was quite surprising! I was not feeling very confident about her handling the whole situation, but she just slept and enjoyed the whole thing! We left in time to eat supper and get to church! While I pumped, Jonathan went into DQ and got us our dinner, then we ate in the parking lot and went to church.

It was a very busy weekend because Sunday was spent with family too! We had a nice, slow, relaxing morning and had some yummy baked oatmeal, then we went to the Rich's for lunch. Daniel was home and I hadn't seen any of the boys since July! So it was nice to get back together with them and for them to meet Amelia. Nana and Hope just couldn't even handle her sweetness. Nana said she is "the most beautiful baby she has ever seen". I had to agree with her.

March 15-21:

My allergies turned cold must have impacted Amelia because she did not feel well on Monday. I sucked so much snot out of her nose! It was crazy! We had a lot of snuggles and just made it through the day. Poor baby girl wasn't having much of anything. In the evening, Jonathan went and worked on tearing out more of the apartment. He is doing such a nice job! It looks really good! It is nice to see the old coming out because that means we are getting close to the new going in, which is just incredibly exciting! We had Italian swiss steak and spaghetti for dinner and had a visit from my parents and the Staniks. It was so fun to give them a tour because they were just so excited about it!

Tuesday was a busy day! Jonathan worked, then we ran into town, met with our attorney, picked up our taxes and got a few groceries at DDM. Once we got home, I finished the creamy chicken noodle soup, made some crescent rolls and we ate quick. Then, while Jonathan played with Amelia, I put together a giant cookie to share with his family since they were coming over. I had never made it before, but you bake it in a cast iron skillet, so I was excited to try it! It was a hit! Jonathan's parents, Grandpa and Uncle came over to see Amelia and the house, so it was fun to share everything with them. In hind sight, we did a lot of house tours this week!

Wednesday was another interesting day. Amelia had a doctor's appointment and got a few different vaccines...poor baby didn't feel good the rest of the day. She just had to have Mama and there was no convincing her otherwise. I think she cried more than she has ever cried in her life that day! Thankfully, I was able to cuddle her and give her all the comfort she needed and she bounced back by the evening. The Henmans came over for dinner on Wednesday evening. We had breakfast because Vance loves it and so does Jonathan! Jonathan made pancakes, I made quiche and we had a great time with friends!

On Thursday we did our usual - Jonathan went to band, Amelia and I had a day at home. We both felt great, so it was nice to be back to some sort of normal! Friday was a great night. Jonathan worked, then we took Amelia to my parents' and went out on a date! We hadn't gone to Canton in awhile and Amelia was needing some new clothes, so we had dinner at Tlaquepaque, went to Once Upon a Child for new clothes and then went to Target to grab a few other things. It was a great date night and we were very productive as well! Now Amelia has a ton of clothes to wear! To be clear, she has a ton of cute little outfits that I am excited to put her in...but a lot of them require her growing into them! Plus, she doesn't wear cute outfits all the time...sorry to burst your bubble. She wears sleepers and onesies as much as possible...we are all about a quick diaper change!

Saturday and Sunday were amazing. We spent a lot of time at home! French toast for breakfast, slow mornings together, naps both days...it was great. Jonathan worked on the apartment on Saturday before he had to go to church and we facetimed the Riemans, but otherwise we were just home and relaxing together! I made lasagna for lunch and we had leftovers for lunch on Sunday. Sunday was BEAUTIFUL here, so Jonathan went and trimmed all of our holly bushes...they look 100 times better! I cleaned off some rocks...more on that later...I promise I am not crazy! We went on a walk around the allotment and then went to my parents' for dinner with them and my grandparents - fish sandwiches from the bowling alley for the first time for Jonathan and I...they were very good! Mom made blackberry pie for dessert...which was delicious. It was great to spend an evening relaxing with the four of them!

We are now heading into my last two weeks of maternity leave which is going to be a huge change for our family...we are not looking forward to it, but I am sure it is going to be okay. Right now we are just praying about it a lot and asking for a smooth transition for all four of us - Jonathan, Amelia, Faith and I. Faith is going to be babysitting Amelia, which is a huge answer to prayer. I feel so comfortable about our childcare plan and am thankful to have her...I can't imagine leaving her with a stranger or with a bunch of other kids! She is just going to be spoiled...and I don't even care! As we go through this transition we are going to do our best to keep you in the loop, but we are balancing a lot, so leave room for grace! We love you all!

Love,

Alli, Jonathan and Amelia

Year 3, Weeks 32 and 33: Smiles, Haircuts and New Experiences

A week late...but here we finally are! We have continued having a lot of visitors, a lot of Amelia time and a lot of time at home.

February 22-28:

I finally had enough...my hair had to go. So Monday I went to get 12 inches cut off. It feels so much better and isn't getting in Amelia's face or her diaper or her hands...so that is a huge improvement! While I was gone, Jonathan took Amelia to Carrollton to get some things figured out for the car...apparently she slept the whole time! We were going to have spaghetti for dinner, but then we didn't have any spaghetti sauce, so we had hamburger helper instead! It was date night, so we played 7 Wonders. Jonathan beat me handedly. It wasn't even a competition!

Tuesday was just a slow day at home, nothing big. Wednesday was a busy day for Amelia and I though! Our morning was spent in Canton. I had a doctor's appointment, but we needed another key for the Traverse, so I went to get a new one for us at a place in Canton...super reasonable prices in comparison to the dealership! For dinner we had pulled pork and smoothies. Mom and Dad stopped to say hi and Amelia slept for 8 hours that night! At 6 weeks old! We were so proud of her. She was a champ the whole day, even though we were gone all morning.

As usual, Jonathan had band on Thursday, so Amelia and I had Mommy/Daughter time. This week, Jan and Frank came and saw us! I love seeing people in our lives love on Amelia, it is so sweet. Thankfully, it was just a really relaxing day! On Friday we took Amelia out for the first time. We went to Applebee's for dinner, then went to Walmart and grocery shopping. It was a fun little family night and our first time eating out with a baby, and it wasn't difficult at all! We enjoyed it! The guy who seated us asked if we needed a kids' menu...so that was HYSTERICAL. We kindly said no...but in my brain I was laughing hysterically. When he walked away we had a nice little chuckle.

The weekend was pretty relaxed! Jonathan played at church on Saturday, so he left mid-afternoon for practice, but the morning was great. We looked at plants for the orchard and garden in the morning, then Jonathan went to work on the attic while I made everything for southwest crispy wraps for lunch. Amelia and I spent the afternoon home together. This was the first day she smiled at me! She gave me some HUGE smiles and was having a lot of fun playing with her tongue. It was so cute!

Sunday we finally made some decisions on plants. No orchard this year, but we ordered a bunch of stuff for our garden! I can't wait to get them and get started! We napped in the morning, had waffles for breakfast and Jonathan worked on the attic. We also took Amelia outside for the first time...it was adorable. Mom and Dad came over for dinner and to help talk through next steps with the house, so that was good. We had chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes. I had never made the recipe before...but it was delicious! Definitely will be making it again! In the evening, we facetimed the Landis' so they could catch up with us and Amelia. She doesn't really understand facetime at all...but it allows them to see her, so that is what matters!

March 1-7:

This was the first week Amelia slept through the night consistently...so we are completely new people! Six and a half weeks and she is at 8 hours a night! 11pm to 7am fairly consistently. She had two nights that she didn't make it, but then she was back on the train! She is just incredible!

On Monday we had date night. Jonathan picked the game with Amelia...he picked two and then counted the amount of times she stuck her tongue out to decide between them...so they picked Scrabble! It was a SUPER close game...but he won by less than 10 points! Stay tuned...some date night I might actually win a game! We had leftovers for dinner, but went to get DQ for dessert!

Tuesday was another slow day...I am trying not to get used to having Tuesdays to count on since we never have them when I am at work. So right now, they are just relaxing! Jonathan went up to the apartment to work, but otherwise we were just at home. Wednesday the Landis' came over and brought Grandma Hochstedler to meet Amelia! It was so sweet to introduce them! We made dinner and they just came and spent some time. It was a lot of fun!

Our Thursday was as usual, but Amelia and I went to see my parents. I was needing to get out of the house! Sometimes the same 4 walls get old! I got some milk...then I dumped it all over the garage floor...so that was great. Thankfully, Mom is wonderful and dropped off a gallon of milk on her way to work the next morning. We were almost out and I needed it to make some enchiladas the next day! Jonathan and I watched a movie and relaxed for the evening. It was fantastic. "Driving Miss Daisy" is just an incredibly cute little movie!

Saturday was finally trash day! It was a little difficult to wait 3 months to take trash, but whew!!! Here we are! After that we picked up sticks, staked the garden out, looked for rocks and I put breakfast enchiladas together. We went to church in the evening, had leftovers for dinner and then Mom and Dad came over, brought ice cream and chatted with us. Sunday was just as relaxing. We cleaned, did laundry, Jonathan got the rocks out of the yard, went to True Value and I made Mongolian steak for dinner. Jonathan got the squeak out of our floor...which was so funny because Amelia was laying on the floor and kept smiling when she heard him from downstairs.

We just love being parents and are so glad that our family has expanded. It is so nice to be home as a family during maternity leave. The time to return is creeping closer...but we are soaking up what is left! I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having! We love you all!

Love,

Alli, Jonathan and Amelia

Year 6, May:

Hello, there! I must say this month will most likely be told in pictures more than words because it has been both a whirlwind and a slow pac...
