Year 3, Weeks 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42: A New Normal

So much for getting good at this! It has been awhile, but we are here now, that's what matters! There has been a lot going on! Apparently working a full time job, being a new mama and maintaining a household is a lot to juggle and doesn't leave a lot of free time for writing and documenting the time...which is unfortunate, because I want to remember every single minute!

Week 38: April 5-11

Monday was my last day off, so we had a lot to do! I prepared for the whole return with meal prep, getting Amelia's stuff ready to go and making sure the house was stocked with everything we needed. We also had to go sign some papers at the attorney's office. I made chicken crescents and we had steaks for dinner!

Tuesday was the big day - first day back to work, first day as a working mom! I was overwhelmed by the peace the Lord provided me. Of course, I cried the whole way in to work after dropping Amelia off, but when the pharmacy opened it was back in gear, just keep moving. I was very please with how the day went! Jonathan brought her by to see me, so that was special. Mom and Dad came and worked on the garden, so we were glad for the help.

Thankfully, Wednesday was my day off, so I wasn't away from my baby for long! We went on a walk, I made a few phone calls, Jonathan mowed and we watched the Masked Singer! It was a great day off, especially since the weather was so nice! We had ham fried rice and applesauce for dinner and it made great leftovers too!

I work every Thursday until 6 and Jonathan has band at 6, so Amelia gets some time with Granny until I get home. It is fun to get home and see my mom and my little girl! It was a good first Thursday. On Friday I worked 10-6, then met Jonathan at friends' house for a progressive dinner, which was a ton of fun. Grandma and Grandpa Landis got to spend some time with Miss Amelia, so that was a bonus! We came, fed her and then took her to the last stop for games and dessert...she was so loved by everyone there! She even got to take a nap with Mr. Hull!

The weekend was amazing - I was off for two whole days! Jonathan made sticky rolls for breakfast, then we went shopping at Motts' and Aldi as a family, we worked outside, Little Miss and I took a nap, it was a fantastic day! On Sunday, Jonathan helped me out and did some cleaning while I cooked and napped (yes, again), then Dad and Jonathan moved the shed from one side of the property to back behind the garden. It was a good week full of challenges and God's grace!

Week 39: April 12-18

I worked long days on Monday and Tuesday, but they went well! Jonathan and Amelia had a good time together, he got some studying done and Amelia slept very well! She has been a little trooper through all of this, just cooperates and stays so happy and joyous! Tuesday was her three month birthday, so Jonathan took some pictures of her that were SUPER adorable! He sent them to me at work and it just made my whole day! Wednesday was extra special because I got to spend the day with Amelia. Jonathan mowed, we watched the masked singer and had creamy potatoes and sausage together late in the evening.

On Thursday we had a normal Thursday, hung out after Amelia went to bed and watched the Moody's. It was my weekend off though, so that was a huge plus! COVID shots are crazy, so I was glad to not be there by myself for any extended periods for my first two weeks. On Friday I did a lot of cleaning, put milk away, made salsa and dessert and enjoyed some time with Amelia before Sara and Dustin came over for game night and fajitas! It was a ton of fun, we played a few games, had a few laughs and enjoyed yummy food together! Amelia handled it pretty well and ended up going down pretty easily.

Saturday we went out for breakfast and did some fun shopping for clothes and new work shoes for me...which were very necessary...my feet were not doing well. Sunday went downhill fast. Jonathan went outside while I was in the with baby, by the time we went to the Haas' for pizza I was quite sick. My second round of mastitis...it was not fun. I made Shepherd's Pie for dinner on Monday in the morning, which was helpful so I didn't have to worry about that. I didn't spike a fever until late in the evening. By the time I got ahold of someone at the office, they told me they wouldn't call anything in for me and recommended going to the hospital, which I was not going to do.

Week 40: April 19-25

Instead of going to the hospital, I just called the doctor's office in the morning and they sent something in for me. They also informed me that, even though my beautiful daughter sleeps 10 hours at night, I do not have the luxury of doing so. My new normal is waking up at 2AM to pump, so that is not the best experience, but we are making it work! We had Shepherd's Pie for the first time - it was delicious - and Jonathan mowed the yard! I ended up calling off work, which is why I was home to enjoy some family time while I tried to feel like a normal human again. It was a tough day, but a bonus one with my family, so I was okay with it.

Tuesday I worked and Jonathan spent the evening with Amelia. She goes to our friend Faith's house during the day and that has been phenomenal. Faith absolutely adores her, spoils her and works really hard to adhere to the schedule we have established that works for our family. She is an incredible fit for our family!

On Wednesday Jonathan went to get some things from an auction he participated in. We had meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and green beans, I had to move some milk and pack up for the rest of the week. It was my long week...so I had a lot to get ready. I also had to write some thank yous, schedule June and copy down some recipes. Then Thursday was normal, Jonathan came home early from band and we got to spend some extra time together before my first weekend back to work.

It was a long weekend away from the baby girl...especially when it ended up being a really rough weekend. Lots of stuff to do and not enough time to do it! It was very busy and difficult to manage, so I was glad when it was over. Jonathan was home with Amelia. His mom came over to watch Amelia so that he could mow, then we met at church that evening.

Week 41: April 26 - May 2

Monday morning, Jonathan left for Celina and I was home by myself with Amelia. We girls went grocery shopping, I got Arby's, then the exterminator came to treat our house. In the evening, we went to Mom and Dad's to hang out for a little while so I wasn't home just the two of us all day long. Jonathan went to the Siderail with Graham and Dillon then they played 'Infinite Jonathans' in the evening. Then he came home after work on Tuesday, picked up Amelia at Mom and Dad's and I worked a 13 hour day.

Wednesday is always my day off, so I put corned beef together, did laundry, balanced finances and we ran some errands as a family. Unfortunately...I didn't take the diaper bag...that was a mistake! True Value, gas station, library and DQ! It was a great trip for sure! Thursday was normal, I worked a short day on Friday and then we went to Mom and Dad's for pizza with Kyle!
Saturday Jonathan played at church, so he mowed in the early afternoon. I had to go to work in the morning to do an inventory and we got a wake up call from the neighbors! Some drunk guy parked at our house then broke into their house and fell asleep on their recliner...it was a bit startling! In the evening, Jonathan made bacon cheddar burgers on the grill after church and we ate out at the picnic table and had a wonderful chat! On Sunday we did some shopping and just spent time at home.

Week 42: May 3-9

This was my random week off. When I was on maternity leave I really wanted to know when I would be off again, so I took a random week off! It was great to have some more time with Amelia! I worked Monday, but then I was off for the rest of the week. Which, as usual, did not go as I had intended. There were so many things I thought I would get done...I was wrong.

Tuesday I ended up coming down with mastitis again...so we ended up going to the lactation consultant. She was wonderful and my body actually fought it off on its own, which was very helpful. I did not want to be back on antibiotics again after 36 hours of no antibiotics. After our appointment we went to the Landis' to see Kate and Aaron who were in town! It was great to see them, but poor Amelia had a rough day. Her naps were screwed up, it was a long day, she wasn't at home, she was a bit of a mess. Only wanted Mama or Daddy, which was fine with us! She was perfectly fine if one of us had her. Grandma took her in the other room and got her to go to sleep, poor baby cried until she finally did fall asleep! She was just so tired! Of course, she only slept for a very short bit until she woke up and wanted to eat. After that, we came home and she slept so well!

Wednesday she had a nice, relaxing day! I had a hair appointment, so she hung out with her daddy for a little bit. It was a busy day for Jonathan and I! We got our septic cleaned out, I did some shopping after my appointment, then we had ice cream and watched the masked singer in the evening after he studied and I got back from a garage sale. It was a good, busy, enjoyable day and little Miss Amelia got to have a normal day!

Thursday was another good day! Jonathan had band and then came back and mowed, so Amelia and I went to visit Mandi and Vance! We went for a walk and got to catch up, which was incredibly awesome. I am so thankful to have the amazing friendships that we have here. It is lifegiving to spend time with people who love both of us and our baby girl. We are so blessed!

It was a great weekend together too! Friday night we had family pictures taken and then went to Grinders for dinner. Amelia slept through our dinner, then we went to DDM to get a few things too. Such a fun night! I got some shopping done on Thursday, so that allowed me to get some other stuff done on Friday, like preparing for Saturday's baby dedication! Jonathan finished mowing while I got everything ready. We had both of our families over and Grandpa Landis came too! After church we had chicken, bacon, ranch sliders, sausage chip dip, fruit with dip and snickerdoodle bars. It was all delicious and we had a fantastic time!

Sunday was my first Mother's Day with Amelia on the outside! Last year I happened to take my pregnancy test on Mother's Day, so it was very sweet to have gone a year of knowing she existed! She is the best surprised we could have ever been given! Our Mother's day was incredibly relaxing. It was such a rainy day, so we just relaxed at home! In the evening we went over to Mom and Dad's to see Grandma, Grandpa and Shem! He came home that afternoon, so we went over there for Thanksgiving dinner and ended up seeing Grandpa Haas and the Riches too! It was a great day and I loved my first Mother's Day! Jonathan and Amelia got me flowers and a super cute mug with pictures of Amelia!

It has been a wild time...but it has been a good time. We are doing well with our new schedule and are starting to get it figured out! Hopefully I will soon get to writing this more frequently! Love you all! See you soon!

Love,

Alli, Jonathan and Amelia
